Ride Spotlight: Revenge of the Mummy
Ahh, Brendan Fraser- what a gem.
If you are confused as to why I’m mentioning Brendan Fraser on a post about a Universal ride, please go watch the cinematic masterpiece, The Mummy, and then come back. This is the movie Universal’s ride is based on.
The Basics
Revenge of the Mummy is located in Universal Studios and has a 48″ height requirement. It’s an indoor story coaster and it’s awesome!
It’s fast, it’s dark, it’s highly themed.
The Queue
The Mummy typically doesn’t have long wait times, in my experience. However, if you are stuck in line, it certainly has an entertaining queue to keep you occupied. It’s worth it to watch the cast interviews which are broadcast on the TVs while waiting in line. This explains the curse of Imhotep (the curse- it’s real!). This also explains why Brendan Fraser is looking for a cup of coffee (IYKYK). Do you need to know the backstory to enjoy the ride? No, but it does make it way more fun!
Also, the queue is interactive. There are things to touch, places to scare other people in line, and places to scare yourself. If you can stick your hand in something in this line, just do it!
The Lockers
As with many of Universal’s thrill rides, you are required to put your loose items, backpacks, freestyle cups, etc. in a locker before riding. Luckily, there are free lockers just outside the queue. All you have to do is scan your park ticket or room key (or see a team member if you don’t happen to have either of these and they’ll give you a card to scan)- just make sure you hang on to your ticket/key and don’t put it in your locker since this is how you will open the locker back up after riding!
Is This Ride For You?
Revenge of the Mummy is an intense ride. It’s dark, there are mummies (duh), there’s real fire, there’s a hoard of bugs, and there are quick launches. However, the drops aren’t huge, top speeds are only up to 45mph, and it doesn’t go upside down. While it’s not the most intense coaster you’ll ever ride, it’s a prime example of why I say Universal is not Disney.
I don’t think this one tends to make people overly motion sick, as it’s not screen-based, but if coasters make you sick, you might want to sit this one out.
Revenge of the Mummy might be my favorite ride on the Universal Studios side. If you like thrill rides, you won’t be disappointed.
